Using our innovative sample roaster, LINK, the Nucleus Coffee Tools team offers assistance to and partners with several renowned green coffee auction programs across the globe.
Too often, coffees are misrepresented on cupping tables as a result of poor or inaccurate sample roasting. The LINK roaster and its algorithmic profiling allow anyone – of any roasting experience level – to roast coffees professionally and in a way that best expresses each coffee sample.
Through our auction collaborations, the LINK roaster is used to create unique roast profiles for each coffee available at auction. This enables potential participants and buyers in the auction to roast samples of each coffee identically to how the auction judges experienced them, no matter where they are in the world.
When collaborating in exclusive coffee auctions, we offer an easy and accessible means to access and use all roast profiles for coffees that are heading to auction.
For each auction, we create a unique Profile Pack of roast profiles, including profiles customised for each coffee. This includes variances in batch size (eg. 50g or 100g), and recommendations for adjustments to fan speed, roast development, and more.
Each Profile Pack is offered at no charge to users, and can either be accessed on the Nucleus Coffee Tools website or via specialised QR codes on each relevant auction sample box.

In partnership with Daterra, we have prepared customised Profile Packs for all auction coffees using the LINK roaster for the 2024 Masterpieces by Daterra auction. With these profiles, those who have purchased the auction sample packs simply have to enter the profile into a LINK roaster to enjoy these special lots curated by the Daterra team from the most recent harvest.

Hacienda La Esmeralda (HLE) is one of the most renowned coffee farms in Panama, and one of the most important farms in the history of the Geisha coffee variety.
The farm has belonged to the Peterson family since 1967, and began coffee cultivation in the mid-1980s. During the 1990s, they began to plant Geisha at high-altitudes after noticing its resistance to diseases such as coffee leaf rust and ojo de gallo. In 2004, their Geisha coffee won the Best of Panama competition at what was then a record-breaking auction price of $21.00/lb.
Since this time, the Peterson family and HLE have continued to be pioneers in the cultivation and processing of high-quality Panamanian coffees, including the Geisha variety. In 2019, they hosted a private auction of their coffees, and have continued to do so ever since.
In partnership with HLE, we have prepared a customised Profile Pack for all auction coffees using the LINK roaster. With these profiles, buyers simply have to enter the profile into a LINK roaster to enjoy the closest profile possible to those judged and selected by the HLE team.

Hacienda La Esmeralda Auction
The custom profiles in the Hacienda La Esmeralda Auction Profile Pack have been designed for the sample lots provided to potential auction bidders around the world, for the purpose of cupping and assessment.
Each cupping profile has been meticulously catered for all coffees, including eight washed and ten natural processed coffees from across the HLE estates.
In addition to the profiles, we have included a PDF breakdown of all the roast profiles for the coffees, including the lot name, each coffee’s screen size, and a fan adjustment for each coffee.

For the standard use of the LINK sample roaster with green coffee samples, a Density-by-weight measurement is required for the LINK App to provide a profile recommendation.
In the HLE Auction Profile Pack release, the density measurements are included as part of the profiling – meaning that users do not have to do any density measurements at all.
The ‘Best of Panama’ (BOP) is regarded as one of the most prominent coffee auction programs in the world, having broken numerous records for coffee prices and cupping scores since the first auction in 2017.
As part of the 2024 BOP program, our team worked with the Specialty Coffee Association’s (SCAP) and the BOP auction as a Gold Sponsor, assisting with roast and data collection in preparation for this year’s auction, taking place in August.
Prior to the final auction, our team shadow roasted and collected data for all the auction samples. This was used to create custom profile packs for the auction boxes and global cupping events to support SCAP.
With these profiles built upon the roast data, this means that buyers simply have to enter the profile into a LINK roaster to enjoy the closest profile possible to those judged by the juries selecting the BOP auction coffees.
Best of Panama 2024
The custom profiles in the BOP Profile Pack have been designed for the sample lots provided to potential auction bidders around the world for the BOP Auction.
Each profile has been meticulously catered for coffees in the Varieties, Gesha Washed and Gesha Natural categories, and will perfectly recreate the expression of all the coffees presented to the BOP judges during the judging rounds.
In addition to the profiles, we have included a PDF breakdown of all the roast profiles for the coffees, including the position the coffees finished in the auction, the coffee code from the BOP auction, each coffee’s screen size, and a fan adjustment for each coffee.

Each of the profiles in the BOP Profile Pack were designed for specific ageing and tasting periods, similar to the protocol used at the Best of Panama 2024 judging.
- All natural coffees were roasted two days before cupping.
- All washed coffees were roasted one day before cupping.

Led by Wilford Lamastus (Snr), LFE has been awarded as the Best Producer of the prestigious ‘Best of Panama’ international tasting event and has received record-breaking prices for their coffees on multiple occasions.
Since 2021, LFE has operated their private auction, the Lamastus Family Estates ‘Estate Auction’. As part of their 2024 auction program, our team has produced custom profile packs for the auction boxes and global cupping events to support their team, and create a consistent expression of their coffees across the globe.
