By twisting the base of the Bloom to its first setting, the distribution needles are extended. When straight, these needles can be used to distribute ground coffee in a brew bed. Ideal for conical drippers, this method enables more precise distribution in smaller brewing devices and mixing of coffee grounds proper to dosing.

By twisting the base of the Bloom to its second setting, the distribution needles are extended and fanned out at an angle. When in the fan position, these needles can be used to distribute ground coffee in a brew bed. Ideal for flat bed drippers, this method also helps to brings chaff to the top of the brew bed, and can be used to mix coffee grounds prior to dosing.

To use the Needle Distribution, hold the middle section, or main body of the Bloom. Twist the FlowTip anti-clockwise to extend the needles.

The first ‘click’ is the setting for Straight Needle distribution. To use the Fan Needle distribution, continue twisting the FlowTip anti-clockwise until the needles fan, and you feel a second ‘click’.

To retract the Needles, hold the body of the Bloom and twist the FlowTip clockwise until they are fully encased inside.

Do not over-twist or force the FlowTip in either direction.

The FlowTip creates a gentle depression in the coffee bed, guiding the first pour into a central area while maintaining even bed-depth consistency. This method helps prevent premature bypassing, ensuring water interacts evenly with all grounds.

Creating an ident in a coffee bed can assist with the directional flow of water within a brewing device – leading to more consistent extraction – and improve bed-depth consistency in conical brewers.

• Directional flow refers to the path of movement that water will take throughout the coffee bed, affecting overall extraction.
• Bed-depth consistency refers to the distance from the top of the coffee grounds to the surface of the brewer.

The Bloom’s specialised needles are able to be easily replaced or reconfigured, via a simple disassembly and reassembly. Each Bloom comes with several spare needles, and a complete set of replacement needles can be purchased separately.

WDT stands for Weiss Distribution Technique, a method commonly used in espresso preparation to break up clumps and evenly distribute grounds before tamping.

Bloom takes this principle further, and has been designed specifically for distribution and brew bed preparation for filter coffee. By introducing retractable movement, interchangeable straight and fan needle configurations, and the FlowTip™ design, the Bloom is versatile for a range of filter brewing techniques – from conical, to flatbed, immersion, and more. It can also be used in the preparation of espresso.

Bloom features two needles modes:

• Straight needles – reach deep into the coffee bed to evenly distribute density and remove air pockets.

• Fan needles – sweep the surface, lifting chaff and light particles to prevent clogging and ensure a smooth flow.

Bloom can house up to 12 needles. Users can also reconfigure their Bloom, changing the number of needles and how they are dispersed on the device.

More than eight time stronger than stainless steel, these needles resist bending, reduce friction, and naturally help attract fines and chaff for a cleaner brew.

FlowTip™ is Bloom’s precision-shaped needle design, engineered to move coffee grounds gently and predictably during distribution. Unlike sharp or flat needle tips, FlowTip™ features a smooth, rounded profile that guides grounds aside rather than cutting through them. This reduces disruption to the coffee bed while still breaking up clumps and redistributing fines.
