An all-in-one tool that draws upon Weiss Distribution Techniques and various methods of pre-extraction preparation for coffee, Bloom aims to resolve inconsistencies and challenges in coffee brewing for baristas and coffee enthusiasts across the globe.

Designed for clarity and control

Inconsistent extractions, uneven saturation and choked brews are challenges faced by even the most experienced baristas. Bloom tackles them all. Its innovative retractable design, powered by a precision inner helix, allows smooth, controlled movement across the coffee bed. Two unique needle configurations—straight and fan—work in tandem to break up clumps, redistribute density, remove hidden air pockets and lift chaff.

For 2024 World Brewers Cup Champion, Martin Wölfl, the effect of the Bloom on his coffee is immediate.

On the reverse side, the integrated FlowTip™ shaping tool creates a precise divot in the coffee bed before pouring. By encouraging rapid and even release of CO₂, FlowTip reduces bubbling and minimises channelling, resulting in faster saturation and a cleaner, sweeter cup.

Engineered for excellence

Every element of Bloom has been engineered for performance and longevity.

The custom needles are coated in a specialised material that provides exceptional hardness and low friction. This ensures a smooth glide through the grounds, resists bending and wear, and naturally attracts fines and chaff for superior clarity – attributes that matter whether you brew at home or in a high-volume café.

This material also plays a vital role in reducing static. While traditional stainless steel needles tend to block static and repel it back into the dose, Bloom allows for rapid static removal after grinding. By dissipating static, Bloom helps release hidden air pockets, lift chaff, and redistribute fines more evenly across the bed. The result is improved extraction, with greater clarity of aroma, enhanced flavour, and a smoother texture in the cup.

From barista problems, to global solution

Bloom was born from real-world challenges faced by baristas. Nucleus Coffee Tools founder and 2015 World Barista Champion Saša Šestić recalls his motivation:

“Coming from a barista background, I was always eager to find ways to brew better and more consistently. Bloom was developed from that desire to provide baristas and coffee enthusiasts with an easy, repeatable solution to the challenges I also faced every day,” he says.

“With Bloom, we now have a tool that makes consistency straightforward and helps to build confidence in every cup of coffee you make.”

This focus on repeatability has resonated strongly with competition professionals. In an interview with publication Perfect Daily Grind, multiple German Coffee Champion Nicole Battefeld-Montgomery – who tested an early prototype of the Bloom, says that she relies on it for consistent filter brewing.

“I use a distribution tool, even for filter brewing – specifically, the Bloom by Nucleus Coffee Tools. It helps me create an even, consistent coffee bed before pouring […],” she said.

“I always prepare the bed with the distribution tool first, because it gives me the consistency I want across brews.”

From cone and flat-bed drippers to immersion brewers and espresso baskets, Bloom adapts seamlessly to a wide range of devices and brewing styles. Faster saturation, smoother flow and improved cup clarity become effortless, allowing professionals and enthusiasts alike to brew with confidence.

The global launch of Bloom is scheduled for December 2025, with initial stock already in production for wholesale partners. This announcement marks the first step in bringing Bloom to cafés, roasters and dedicated home brewers around the world.
