The 2024 Best of Panama auction

The Nucleus Coffee Tools team is excited to announce a new partnership with the renowned Panamnian auction program, Best of Panama (BOP) and the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama (SCAP).

The ‘Best of Panama’ is regarded as one of the most prominent coffee auction programs in the world, having broken numerous records for coffee prices and cupping scores since the first auction in 2017.

As part of this year’s BOP program, our team will work with the Specialty Coffee Association’s Best of Panama auction as a Gold Sponsor, assisting with roast and data collection in preparation for this year’s auction, taking place in August.

“The Best of Panama program represents the pinnacle of coffee excellence, and is regarded by many as continuously showcasing among the best coffee in the world,” says Director of Nucleus Coffee Tools, Sam Corra.

“Working with SCAP and the BOP program, we aim to bring the incredible experiences from the auction judge’s cupping tables directly to buyers all across the world.”

Ensuring quality all over the world

Through our ongoing partnership with SCAP, we aim to ensure that a true and honest expression of each of the BOP coffees – as close to the final auction table as possible – is able to be enjoyed by buyers all over the world.

Prior to the final auction, our team will shadow roast and collect data for all the auction samples. This will be used to create custom profile packs for the auction boxes and global cupping events to support SCAP.

With these profiles built upon the roast data, this means that buyers simply have to enter the profile into a LINK roaster to enjoy the closest profile possible to those judged by the juries selecting the BOP auction coffees.

“Over several years, we’ve enjoyed a close and successful relationship with many members of the Panamanian coffee community and [SCAP],” says Director of Nucleus Coffee Tools, Sam Corra.

“This new project will ensure that we’re able to collect the most important and relevant data available, creating customised roast profiles so that buyers are able to easily and consistently recreate the experience of the BOP judges.”

LINK Workshop

In addition to our partnership with SCAP and work at the BOP auction program, Nucleus Coffee Tools will also be hosting a public workshop for attendees and producers at the event.

During this workshop, members of our team will demonstrate features and usage of the LINK sample roaster, including how to use its unique operating firmware and tools at farm level.

“The LINK sample roaster was created, first and foremost, to provide an accessible and affordable roasting solution for coffee producers across the globe,” says Sam.

“During our time in Panama, we look forward to sharing our work and innovations with producers from across the country.”
