The YouRoast program

Nucleus Coffee Tools and Savage Coffees have collaborated to launch the pilot of a new bean to cup program, ‘YouRoast, with coffees from the top three winners of the 2024 World Barista Championships.

Following the success of YouRoast events at various coffee exhibitions and events around the world – in which attendees were able to roast their own coffee with the LINK roaster – the program is now being expanded to provide access to exclusive, green coffees.

Launching at the World of Coffee Copenhagen, the YouRoast program will now allow direct access to exclusive coffees from renowned farms, regions and producers across the world, which users will be able to purchase and roast themselves on a LINK roaster.

This program will also provide extensive information on included coffees, as well as guidance on how to approach extraction and brewing for each.

YouRoast: Coffee in your hands

Nucleus Coffee Tools’ YouRoast is a unique opportunity that both celebrates the producers that our team works with in a range of coffee-producing countries, and places their coffees in the hands of a global community of coffee lovers.

To date, we’ve used the YouRoast project to allow consumers a direct way to interact with and roast green coffee, primarily at key coffee events and exhibitions around the world. This program is now expanding to include direct access to a range of exclusive coffees, which we aim to share across the globe with partners and friends of Nucleus Coffee Tools.

The new YouRoast program is designed to bring exceptional green coffee directly into the hands of coffee lovers, allowing them the opportunity to roast it themselves using the LINK roaster and to create unique experiences using Nucleus Coffee Tools’ equipment.

“With the growing community of producers already using our products in their labs, or having their coffees enhanced on the competition platform with the handheld tools range, we want to connect the everyday Nucleus Coffee Tools user to this world,” says Sam Corra, Director of Nucleus Coffee Tools.

“In the YouRoast ecosystem, we want our community to benefit from this insider knowledge – our aim is to place the best coffees possible in the hands of coffee lovers, and for them to have all the tools they need to roast, brew and enjoy them as best as possible.”

"...we want to connect the everyday Nucleus Coffee Tools user to this world."

Edition One: Finca Deborah Championship Pack

The inaugural launch of YouRoast will include three different geisha coffees from Savage Coffees and their renowned farm in Panama, Finca Deborah. Each of these coffees was used in the 2024 World Barista Championship by the top three winners – Mikael Jasin (Indonesia, 1st place), Jack Simpson (Australia, 2nd place) and Takayuki Ishitani (Japan, 3rd place).

Jamison and Finca Deborah are no strangers to success. In 2016, Taiwanese competitor Burg Wu won the World Barista Championship using their coffee, putting them on the map. In 2024, they achieved their most tremendous success to date: having the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place baristas in the competition, using coffee all from one farm – a testament to the exceptional quality of their coffees.

“It’s additional confirmation that our coffees are exceptional, unique, and well beyond simply another “win”,” says Jamison.

“It means that processing prowess is essential to delivering Geisha at a level that makes history. For me, personally, it means our coffees are appreciated, and our work respected, by the most talented and advanced Baristas, tasters, and connoisseurs on earth. That’s very gratifying and I’m thankful for that.”

The YouRoast Finca Deborah Championship Pack box will contain:

  • 100g Green coffee – Finca Deborah “Ellipse” Extended Carbonic Maceration Whole Cherry Washed.
Used by Mikael Jasin, Indonesia (1st place)
  • 100g Green coffee – Finca Deborah “Nirvana”, Extended Nitrogen Macerated Anaerobic Natural
Used by Jack Simpson, Australia (2nd place)
  • 100g Green coffee – Finca Deborah “Terroir”, Classic Washed
Used by Takayuki Ishitani, Japan (3rd place)

“Our agronomic techniques and focus is on terroir harmony, particularly soils,” says Jamison.

“Maintaining balance with our ecology, first and foremost, while we nurture and grow these Fine Coffees, is the secret to our overwhelmingly positive story. Occasionally, I’ll try new techniques with advanced technology, but in the end, it’s simply adhering to basic principles of stewardship with the land.”

"...users will be provided with access to unique roast profiles for the LINK roaster to match each of these championship coffees."

How it works

All coffees in the YouRoast program will be provided in specialised packs. Within each pack, there will be several bags of green coffee that has been specifically chosen by our team – each coffee will be curated with ideal roast profile(s) for the LINK roaster, as well as brewing recipes and preparation methods using Nucleus Coffee Tools equipment.

The process for preparing the YouRoast packs is meticulous. We draw from our experience of preparing sample boxes – such as the upcoming Best of Panama Auction and other well-known coffee farms’ Private Auctions – and aim to make this format more accessible, offering a variety of incredible coffees each harvest.

Our team also plays a crucial role in the YouRoast initiative. They travel often to origin countries annually, using their expertise to discover the best lots before roasters and competitors find them. This ensures that we can offer our community the most exclusive and exceptional coffees.

These coffees are not only selected just for their profiles that suit various roast styles, but also for their potential to be paired with various tools produced by Nucleus Coffee Tools, elevating the sensory experience of users to new heights.

“Upon receiving a YouRoast box, users will be provided with access to unique roast profiles for the LINK roaster to match each of these championship coffees – meaning they can recreate the best expression of each, no matter where they are in the world” says Sam.

“In addition, they’ll receive detailed recipes and instructions for preparing these coffees with different techniques, such as extra chilling technology and temperature readings. Our aim is to provide each YouRoast user with the tools to create the best cup possible, minimising the room for error.”

Where to access YouRoast

The first edition of YouRoast, the ‘Finca Deborah Championship Pack’ will be available for purchase at the World of Coffee expo in Copenhagen, Denmark and through various partners and distributors of Nucleus Coffee Tools across the globe.

At the World of Coffee, YouRoast boxes will be sold at booth CD-016, co-hosted by Nucleus Coffee Tools, Roast Rebels and Kaffelogic. Events and access across the rest of the globe will be announced in the coming days and weeks.

“It’s an honour, personally, to have produced these coffees,” says Jamison.

“And, if you are drinking coffees of this calibre for the first time, expect more in the future. I know it will be meaningful experience that brings pleasure that you’ll share with your dearest friends.”
